February 2, 2000 ail Porter Gerrity, a resident of Thornhurst for the past 14
years, died Wednesday at Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y.,
she was a daughter of Christopher Porter, of North Miami, Fla., and the late
Josephine Competello. A graduate of Harborfield High School in Greenlawn,
N.Y., she was a conductor for the Long Island Railroad until she retired in
September. She was a volunteer with the Thornhurst Volunteer Fire Co.
Surviving are her husband, John J., with whom she would have celebrated their
20th wedding anniversary June 27; sisters, Stephanie Reilly, Fort Lauderdale,
Fla.; and Pamela Youstey, Indianapolis, Ind.; and several nieces, nephews and
cousins. Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday from the Brian Arthur
Strauch Funeral Home, Springbrook Township, with a Mass of Christian Burial at
10 a.m. in St. Eulalia’s Church, Elmhurst. Interment will be in Fairview
Memorial Park, Elmhurst. Friends may call from 3 to 6 this afternoon, and from
2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. Memorial donations may be made to the American
Cancer Society, 1101 Hill St., Jessup.
