February 2, 2000 eorge J. Makinson, formerly of Slocum Street, Forty Fort,
died Wednesday at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. Born July 7, 1913, in
Edwardsville, he was the son of the late James and Mary Elizabeth (Pimm)
Makinson and attended Edwardsville schools. He was residing at The Meadows
Manor and The Meadows Apartments in Dallas after moving from Slocum Street.
Before retiring, he worked for General Cigar Co., Kingston. He was a U.S. Army
veteran of World War II, having served with the Railroad Battalions in North
Africa, the Middle East and the Italian peninsula. He was a member of Immanuel
Baptist Church, Edwardsville, and attended Forty Fort United Methodist Church.
He was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars;
Commandery Dieu LeVeut 45 Shekinah Chapter 182, Wilkes-Barre; and King David
Blue Lodge No. 763, F&AM, Kingston; and a noble of the Irem Temple,
Wilkes-Barre, where he was a longtime member and past director of the Irem
Clown Unit. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former O. Eunice Turner
Makinson. Surviving are his daughter, Rae M. Williams, Columbia, S.C.; two
grandchildren and one nephew. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday from
the Hugh B. Hughes & Son, Inc., Funeral Home, Forty Fort. The Rev. James C.
Quinn will officiate. Interment will be in Wyoming Cemetery. Friends may call
from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. Memorial donations may be made to Immanuel
Baptist Church.
