February 2, 2000 oseph P. Murphy Sr., of Wright Street, Duryea, died
Wednesday at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. Born in Duryea, he was a son of
the late Charles and Anna (Bodner) Murphy. He was a graduate of Duryea High
School and attended East Stroudsburg University. He was a U.S. Army veteran of
World War II. Before retiring, he worked for Jersey Welding Products,
Piscataway, N.J. He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church and Veterans
of Foreign Wars Post 1227, both in Duryea, where he was serving as the
quartermaster. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Ann
Dropchinski; and sister, Claire Ward. Surviving are her sons, Kevin, Monroe
Township, N.J.; and Joseph, Jr., British Columbia, Canada; four
grandchildren; brothers, Robert, Pittston; and James, Mountaintop; nieces and
nephews. Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday from the Bernard J.
Piontek Funeral Home, Inc., Duryea, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30
a.m. in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. Interment will be in Mount Olivet
Cemetery, Carverton. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.
Military services will be conducted Saturday morning by VFW Post 1227.
