COURTDALE – A body was taken from the home of Courtdale Borough Councilman
Charles Broody III on Wednesday night.
Although officials would not identify the person found on the first floor
of the two-story home, they said he was a 34-year-old male who resided at the
home.
Luzerne County 911 spokesman Ron Rome said the emergency call came in as a
“reported drug overdose.” The report came to police after 9 p.m.
Courtdale Council President Dorothy Duesler said Broody and his wife live
at the home at 28 Corby Road. Broody, a former Democratic mayor, has been a
councilman for the past four years and was recently elected to another term.
He is a lifelong Courtdale resident.
Luzerne County Deputy Coroner Bill Lisman said the body was found by a
relative who was checking on him.
Lisman said he would not identify the man because he said “immediate,
close” family members were out of town. He said the death was not suspicious
and there was no apparent foul play. He said police and the Coroner’s Office
are conducting a “full investigation.”
A neighbor, who refused to give his name, said the couple has resided in
the home since it was built several years ago.
Chief Deputy Coroner Joe Shaver said toxicology tests will be done and an
autopsy will likely be performed by Coroner Dr. George Hudock.
