A 90-year-old man suffered a gash on his forehead Wednesday morning when a
station wagon he was driving slid under a tractor-trailer on West 8th Street
in Wyoming, said officer Chris Mercavitch. William Poepperling was eastbound
on West 8th Street when he struck a tractor-trailer that was backing out of
the Roof Pro Inc., parking lot. Mercavitch said Poepperling could not see the
tractor-trailer, driven by Walter Keiser Jr., 31, of Lancaster, because of an
extreme glare from the sun. Poepperling and his granddaughter, Colleen Spare,
39, both of Franklin Township, were taken to Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Poepperling was listed in stable condition Wednesday night and Spare was
treated and released, a hospital spokesman said. Poepperling’s car received
major damage and was towed. Mercavitch said no charges will be filed.
