Lake Township officials have sued a township couple alleging that their
malfunctioning septic system allows sewage to flow to the surface of the
ground. The township filed suit Wednesday against Samuel and Robin Carrera,
RR 1, Sweet Valley, seeking the court to order the couple to refrain from
using the septic system and remove any contaminated soil from the property.
The couple could not be reached Wednesday for comment. According to the suit
filed in Luzerne County Court of Common Pleas: The Carreras installed the
system on July 26, 1995. Three years later, the system malfunctioned and
discharged untreated or partially treated sewage to the surface of the ground.
Township officials say the couple is violating the Pennsylvania Sewage Act and
has failed to repair the system despite several efforts by the township to
make them.

EDWARDSVILLE
Two head for trial in club burglary
The two men who police say stole a safe, $3,000 in cash, liquor and
cigarettes from Catholic War Veterans Post 752 on Christmas Eve will face
trial after waiving their right to a preliminary hearing on Wednesday. Daniel
Joseph Kukucka, 21, of Plymouth, and Michael Leonard Endrusick, 36, Main
Street, Edwardsville, were arrested in December after word spread that
Endrusick was selling the stolen cigarettes on the street, police said. Police
said Endrusick admitted that he noticed the safe during a Dec. 14 break-in at
the club in which he stole about 50 packs of cigarettes. Endrusick told police
he first tried to steal the safe on Dec. 14, but it was too heavy to move by
himself and he later recruited Kukucka to help with the job, arrest papers
state. Kukucka faces single counts and Endrusick faces two counts each of
burglary, theft by unlawful taking, criminal conspiracy and criminal trespass.
District Justice John Hopkins forwarded the charges to Luzerne County Court of
Common Pleas. Police also charged Kukucka and his live-in girlfriend, Rachel
Nemetz, 21, with receiving stolen property. She previously waived her
preliminary hearing. Both men remain in the Luzerne County Correctional
Facility for lack of bail.
