January 22, 2000 dward M. Rava, 73, of Cone Road, Leyden, N.Y., died Jan. 22
at his home. Born Dec. 2, 1926, in Duryea, he was a son of the late Stanley
and Stella (Lovendowski) Rava. He attended Duryea High School and was a U.S.
Army veteran of World War II, having served in the Mediterranean Theater. He
worked at the Gould Paper Co., Lyons Falls, N.Y. He later worked for the
Leyden Highway Department and owned and operated a farm for 35 years. In 1983,
he moved to a homestead farm and retired from his dairy farm several years
ago. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, Knights of Columbus, Veterans of
Foreign Wars, American Legion and Elks Lodge, all in Boonville; the Assessors
of the Town of Leyden; the Board of Directors of the Boonville Farmers
Cooperative; and the United Polka League of Mohawk Valley. Surviving are his
wife of 50 years, Charlotte; daughters, Deborah Hopps, Austin, Texas; Denise
Hawk, Umatilla, Fla.; Diane Rava, Atlanta; and Dawn Ernst, Boonville; seven
grandchildren; brothers, Paul and Alfred, both of Duryea; Pete, Nanticoke;
John, Duryea; and Leon, Oriskany, N.Y.; sisters, Dorothy Hizny, West Wyoming;
Mary Ann Tigue, Avoca; and Theresa Salidas, Duryea. He was preceded in death
by brothers, Joseph, Frank, Stanley, Jr., and Charles; and sisters, Josephine,
Anna, Stella and Helen. Funeral services were from the Trainor Funeral Home,
Inc., and St. Joseph’s Church, both in Boonville. Spring interment will be in
St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Boonville.
