February 2, 2000 Kathryn I. Branigan, 85, of Wilkes-Barre, died Wednesday at
her home. Born Jan. 18, 1915, in Wilkes-Barre, she was a daughter of the late
Bernard M. and Catherine (Reilly) McHugh, and attended GAR Memorial High
School. She worked for many years at Pomeroy’s Department Store on Public
Square, Wilkes-Barre, and later was a manager for the BonTon Department Store
at the Wyoming Valley Mall, Wilkes-Barre Township. She was a lifelong member
of St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, Wilkes-Barre, and the parish Altar and
Rosary Society. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Mary Ellis, Claire
Farrell, Alice Klein and Helen “Lolly” Kittrick; and brother, James.
Surviving are her husband of 62 years, William F.; daughters, Karen Walizer,
Wilkes-Barre Township; Joyce Krull, Georgia; Claire Godfrey, Kingston; and Ann
Fleig, Lansdale; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters,
Regina McEvoy and Rita Graf, both of Wilkes-Barre; and many nieces and
nephews. Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday from the Leo P. Lehman
Funeral Home, Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St.
Patrick’s Church. The Rev. T. Timothy Delaney, her nephew, will officiate.
Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call from
2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice
Community Care, Kingston; or the American Cancer Society.
