MY DAUGHTER, who attends Wilkes-Barre Vo-Tech, has expressed some concern
over a teacher that she’s very, very fond of, Mr. Patrick Tosh. He hasn’t been
at school in about three weeks. We’re just wondering how he’s doing. She did
ask one of the officials at the school and was more or less told to mind her
own business. Can you find out where Mr. Patrick Tosh has been these past
couple of weeks?

Editor’s Note: We don’t know where he is, either. Wilkes-Barre Area
Vocational-Technical High School officials said he was on family leave, but
refused to give us more details. We called the only listing for Patrick Tosh
in the local phone book, but it was disconnected.
WHY HASN’T THE CITY of Hazleton returned to the commission form of
government as directed by the Commonwealth Court who issued the order because
the present form of government was declared unconstitutional? Since John
Tarone, William Lockwood and Lou Barletta filed this legal action, it is very
disturbing that they used public funds and public facilities and have not
adhered to the court’s decision.

HOW IRONIC. I just called SAYSO about Hughestown blasting and they just
blasted again. Rep. Tom Tigue, did you feel it? Did you hear it? I doubt it.
You do nothing for the town of Hughestown.

AFTER READING ABOUT Clinton’s State of the Union address, I couldn’t stand
to look at the hypocritical snake. He stinks. I WAS JUST up to shop at a store
in the Back Mountain. Tomatoes were $2.48 per pound. Can you imagine that? I
know they’re going to blame it on the snow. But I see other stores aren’t
raising their prices that much. We in the Back Mountain are at the mercy of
these stores here and we can’t take it much longer.

TO THE BACK MOUNTAIN people in this pollution nightmare, you can’t believe
one word that DEP or Sun Pipeline Co. says.

ABOUT THE DAD BANNED from Dallas Youth Basketball, kids are there to have
fun. These are third- and fourth-grade girls who try their best. Everybody is
at a different level. Parents should not be living their dreams through their
kids. They should be setting examples for their kids, not getting on the court
and yelling at their kids. These kids are developing and need the support of
their parents, not mom or dad yelling at them because they had a bad day at
work or whatever. I applaud the basketball association for taking such quick
action.

THE ARENA WAS SUPPOSED TO create some better-paying jobs in this area. So
who gets the better-paying jobs? The already-employed deputies from Luzerne
County Courthouse will be the ones getting $13 an hour after a pay cut. Thank
you, Mr. Makowski, for keeping your pledge of promoting more jobs for people
in the area. Thank you, Rep. Blaum, for creating more new jobs for the area.
Approximately 40 new jobs should be given to new workers, not already-employed
workers. It doesn’t make sense to me.

THE GAMBLING MACHINES IN the Rolling Mill Hill section, could someone
please help me with them? I called the state police and they told me they
would have to notify Wilkes-Barre police. I said, well unfortunately, they’ve
been reported numerous times and nothing has been done yet. We feel that
someone is tipping them off because everything quiets down for a while and
then they’re brought back out. He tells me to get in touch with the sheriff. I
got in touch with the sheriff and he throws me off to the District Attorney’s
Office to get a county detective, which tells me they have nothing to do with
it, it’s up to the Wilkes-Barre police. I know we had a raid at a store about
a year ago and one week later, I saw the machines were being brought back in.
If they didn’t have the machines, these people who have a problem wouldn’t be
addicted to go there.

I DELIVER PIZZA and I have learned that people are either ignorant or
cheap. If you don’t know that deliverers work off of tips, please be kind and
tip. If you know they work off tips and you don’t tip, go get your order
yourself. People that tip generously, I thank you.

TO EXTREMELY RUDE PARENTS who pick your children up at the Solomon Plains
elementary school: When leaving the complex, could you please try and let kids
cross? You’re very rude and don’t look to see where children are. Someone will
be standing there trying to cross the street for five minutes.

IF THE HAZLETON FOOTBALL team wants to play a softer, gentler kind of
football, then let them and see where they get in the league. I also hope none
of these people ever enlist in the military and have to go through basic
training. They would be in for the shock of their lives.

TO THE PERSON WHO SAID we should kick Hispanics out because they didn’t
literally make the land, I guess we should kick out anyone who is not an exact
descendent from the original Puritans in the Massachusetts Colony. In fact,
why don’t we kick everyone out except the Native Americans? Keep in mind it’s
their land. Everyone of Polish descent, Italian, German, Czechoslovakian, we
all are immigrants moved here in the 1800s and 1900s to find work. How would
you feel if you had to relocate to a foreign country due to a job and they
told you to get out because you weren’t from their country? We are all aliens
in this country. So let’s kick out everyone who’s not Native American.

I NOTICED quite often you make some really outstanding mistakes on your
business page. Today for instance you have about the return showing off for 12
months and they’re obviously not for 12 months cumulative return on mutual
funds, it looks more like it perhaps is a four week. That’s very important to
some people especially when they’re thinking about investing and they look at
returns like that it might change their mind. I know enough about it to know
that it had to be a mistake. But I think for something like that you should be
much more careful when you’re recording numbers.

Editor’s Note: Please call Pam Turfa at 829-7177 if you spot what you
believe is a mistake.

We receive our stock and mutual fund information from the Associated Press.
After we received your phone call, we checked whether the information we
receive matches the headings we list. According to the AP, it does.

Here’s the schedule: On Tuesdays, we publish four-week returns; Wednesday,
12-month returns; Thursday, three-year cumulative percentage return; Thursday,
five-year cumulative percentage return; Sunday, 12-month percentage return,
five-year cumulative return; 52-week high; 52-week low; week last; and change.

Please call if you can provide additional information on the problem you
see.

THE ONLY LOGICAL choice in my book is Al Gore. Al Gore is part of an
administration who has seen the best economy in over 40 years.

A CALLER said “McGroarty is the best.” Come on, look what he’s done to
our city. Geez.

FUNERAL HOMES soliciting people and sending information I don’t necessarily
think is a bad thing. Funeral homes do lots of things to try to get customers.
I know a lot of funeral directors who belong to several different churches or
belong to different civic organizations hoping to get referrals. I think it
would be good for the Times Leader do an article on the funeral homes and what
they charge and comparison shopping.
