NEWPORT TWP. – Township police are warning residents about a scam
concerning the Newport Ambulance Association.

Sgt. Carl Smith, who is the president of the ambulance association, said a
township resident received a call Saturday afternoon from a man asking for a
donation for the group. He said the association is not soliciting funds.
Smith said the association will be conducting a fund-raiser in May and will
announce the activity to residents in advance.

Residents who have received such telephone calls are asked to call Newport
Township Police at 735-2001. Smith suggested that anyone who receives a call
in the future to ask where to send the money, then contact police with the
information. He said residents should not send money.
