February 2, 2000 Thomas W. Gable, a lifelong resident of Taylor, died
Wednesday at Moses Taylor Hospital, Scranton. Born Sept. 15, 1924, in Taylor,
he was a son of the late Joseph Gable and Elizabeth (Goodwin) Gable Harazak. A
1952 graduate of Taylor High School, he was an official for football and
baseball for the PIAA and later for men’s and women’s college softball. He
founded the Taylor Girls Softball Association and umpired for more than 40
years for the American Softball Association. He was sports editor for the
Triboro Banner and the Scranton Tribune for several years. He was a Taylor
Borough councilman for 31 years, a deacon at United Baptist Church, Scranton,
and was active in many civic and religious organizations. Surviving are his
wife, the former Fay Evans, with whom he celebrated 42 years of marriage Oct.
19; daughters, Darlene Williams, Taylor; and Robin Vanderwal, Hudson, N.H.;
three granddaughters; stepfather, Edward Harazak, Cottage Grove, Tenn.;
brothers, Edward Harazak, Mequon, Wis.; and Kenneth Harazak, Cottage Grove;
nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by an infant sister, Maryanne.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the Semian Funeral Home, Taylor.
The Rev. Earl Cassel, of United Baptist Church, will officiate. Interment will
be in Milwaukee Cemetery, Ransom Township. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6
to 9 p.m. Sunday. Swiss Lodge services will be at 3:30 p.m. and Masonic
services will be at 7:30 p.m. Sunday. Memorial donations may be made to the
United Baptist Church.
