February 3, 2000 harles “Mayes” Wywiorka, of Old Forge died Thursday at
Moses Taylor Hospital, Scranton. Born in Marblehead, Ohio, he was a son of the
late Valentine and Caroline (Korczowski) Wywiorka. Formerly of Taylor, he
settled in Old Forge in 1932. A 1925 graduate of Taylor High School, he
attended Dickinson Law School. He was a former coal miner, and before his
retirement worked for the Scranton Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of St.
Michael’s Roman Catholic Church, Old Forge. Surviving are his wife, the former
Tessie Slagowski, with whom he celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary July
11; son Charles, Montdale; daughter, Dolores Wywiorka, at home; one
granddaughter; one grandson; sister, Ann Erikson, Kearny, N.J.; nieces and
nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers, Frank, Joseph and John; and
sister, Estelle Swaine. Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Monday from the
Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Old Forge, with Mass and committal services at
9:30 a.m. in St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church, to be conducted by the Rev.
Joseph M. Brozena. Cremation will follow in Maple Hill Crematory, Wilkes
Barre. Interment of the cremains will be in Holy Cross Cemetery at a later
date. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday.
