On Jan. 24, hundreds from our region once again participated in the an nual
March For Life in Washington, D.C. – the 27th year for this assembly at our
nation’s capital.

Our Supreme Court legalized abortion in the Roe vs. Wade decision of 1973,
long before many of the participants of the rally were ever born. More than
half attending were young people from all across the nation – including a
group from Paris, France – for the purpose of peaceful protest against
legalized abortion and now partial-birth abortion. For many teenagers it was
their first time.
Among the speakers to address the immense crowd were Catholic, Jewish and
Protestant leaders; lawmakers and representatives from various parts of
government; representatives from a throng of pro-life organizations which help
parents in need and their pre-born babies; and various persons, once involved
in the abortion industry, who have since turned away from this evil.

One speaker was Norma McCorvey, who in 1973 helped in – rather, was used
for – the Roe vs. Wade decision. Norma McCorvey has repented of her former
life and has recently become a Roman Catholic. The great leaders who spoke
were cheered by a crowd of well over 100,000.

No matter how cold or inconvenient the day on which this anniversary falls,
people continue to increase their numbers and efforts by going to Washington
for this the greatest of causes – defending all human life.
