I THINK AT THE KING’S COLLEGE men’s basketball games that one section of
rowdy students are purposely testing the new president to see what they can
get away with. I AM CALLING in the little-known fact that Bob McElwee, who
was the head referee in the Super Bowl last Sunday, played softball for Morse
Cafe at the East End Centre of Wilkes-Barre in the ’60s. Bob’s father had a
construction company and was working down at the Nanticoke pumping station, so
Bob wound up playing softball for Morse Cafe. He is one of the finest
gentleman you would ever want to meet, and Bob also at the time was doing a
lot of Wilkes football games and East Stroudsburg games and Bloomsburg games
in this area. I DON’T THINK we’d have a coach for the Wilkes-Barre Penguins
very long if he didn’t have a brother as his boss. There is no defense to
speak of. People on the Penguins stand around. On the attacks, he never has
anybody in front of the goal. It’s always accidental if anybody is there. If
you watch other teams, there is always a big priority of having somebody in
front of the net. The Penguins really got to learn how to pass. That sure
sounds like it’s a basic hockey function. They got to pass and control pucks.
They have to go for the puck and not stand around and watch what the other guy
is doing. THE ICE AT THE ARENA is lousy, with whoever is putting that stuff
down with the Zamboni is spilling water making big ripples on the ice. The
place is just going to hell in a handbasket real quick with how it is being
run. I AM JUST CALLING to inform Mr. Erzar just how good the Lady Argents
are. Allentown is a little out of his driving range, we know, but Hoban beat
Allentown Central Catholic, the perennial AAA power (in Allentown), a feat
that had never been performed by the Argents before. And by the way, Central
Catholic was 14-3 and ranked in the state. Just thought we would let you know,
Mr. Erzar. Thanks.
