February 5, 2000 rancis “Benny” A. Best, 89, of Reynolds Street,
Hughestown, died Saturday at Valley Crest Nursing Home, Plains Township, where
he was a guest for several years. Born Dec. 4, 1910, in Pittston, he was the
son of the late William and Ellen O’Mara Best. He attended St. John the
Evangelist School. Before retiring, he worked for Evans Brothers Grocery and
was a mechanic at Roy Stauffer Chevrolet, West Pittston. He retired from Tom
Hesser Chevrolet, Scranton. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Dupont. He
was preceded in death by sisters, Mary Thompson, Nora Moughan and Helen Lucas;
brothers, John, James, Martin and William. Surviving are his wife of 63 years,
the former Louise Ramage; daughters, Ruth Ann Del Prado, Middletown, Conn.;
Nina Jane Bachman, Hughestown; Eloise Antal, Monroe Township, N.J.; seven
grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Funeral services
will be Tuesday morning at a time to be announced from Kizis-Lokuta Funeral
Home, Pittston, with a Mass of Christian Burial in Sacred Heart of Jesus
Church. Interment will be in Hughestown Cemetery at the convenience of the
family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of the
donor’s choice.
