Scholastic Female Division APRIL FRONZONI scored four goals for the U.S.
Under-20 National Field Hockey Team in a game against Chile in June. Fronzoni,
a senior at Wyoming Valley West, is the KBAC Hoinski winner in the scholastic
female division. She was named first-team all-American by the National Field
Hockey Coaches Association for the second consecutive year. Fronzoni scored 40
goals and had 25 assists for Valley West, which enjoyed its most successful
season ever. The Spartans won their second consecutive District 2 Class 3A
title and then reached the semifinals of the state playoffs before losing to
eventual champion Warwick. Finalist Janelle Perlis, a Lake-Lehman senior who
rebounded from knee surgery to become second-team all-American in field hockey
the second consecutive year. Sara Silvetti, a Crestwood senior who was named
first-team all-American after leading the Comets to the PIAA Class 2A state
field hockey championship. Semifinalists Liz Byron, a sophomore who earned
four state medals and all-America honors as a freshman at Bishop Hoban. Alana
Anzalone, a senior who set the District 2 diving record as a junior and was
all-state in field hockey at Wyoming Seminary. Melissa Dymek, a senior who is
a basketball star at Hazleton Area and is headed to Division I on scholarship.
Shana Keeler, a senior who was all-American in swimming as a junior at Bishop
Hoban. Jill Pesotski, a senior who was an all-star in field hockey and
softball for Coughlin in 1999.
