A Monroe County woman has sued a local bus company, the Wilkes-Barre Area
School District and others, claiming they were negligent for a crash that
killed her husband. Alice Hernandez Greenbaum, Blakeslee, wife and
administrator to the estate of Charles Greenbaum, on Wednesday filed the suit
against the Williams Bus Lines Co., its employee, John Farrell, the district
and Jane and Morris Kramer in connection with the 1997 crash in Bear Creek
Township. The suit claims Williams Bus Lines was working for the School
District at the time of the crash. According to the suit filed in Luzerne
County Court of Common Pleas: At 8:35 a.m. Dec. 19, 1997, Greenbaum was
driving a 1996 Ford Contour in the traveling lane of state Route 115 in Bear
Creek Township and Jane Kramer was in the passing lane. Farrell attempted to
back the bus onto a private driveway in the area of 2161 Bear Creek Blvd. when
the rear tires became stuck in snow, causing the bus to obstruct part of the
roadway. In an attempt to avoid hitting the bus, Greenbaum skidded into the
passing lane, where Jane Kramer broadsided him. The collision caused
Greenbaum’s vehicle to roll onto its roof. Alice Greenbaum is seeking more
than $40,000
