Wash it: Wash your car frequently using a mild detergent. Wax it: Apply good
hard wax by hand twice a year. Seek cover: Park your car in covered parking
(protection from sun, snow and birds). Touch it up: Apply touch-up paint to
flaking, cracking, or chipped paint immediately. Inspect it: Inspect body of
the car at least twice a year. How cars rust Rock hits exterior. The paint is
chipped. (The chip also could be due to other causes.) If metal is exposed,
the chip rusts. If the protective undercoat still exists, the chip likely is
no big deal. Atmosphere and water begins rusting process. Salt speeds rusting
process.
