February 5, 2000 Joseph Edward Skiendziel, of Swoyersville, died Saturday in
Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. Born in Swoyersville, he was a son of the late
Victor and Victoria (Witek) Skiendziel. He attended Swoyersville schools, and
received a certification in watch repair from the Charkins School of Horology,
Johnstown. He worked at the McKettrick Dress Factory and Innamorati’s Sporting
Goods Store, and as a crossing guard at the Dana Street Elementary School,
Forty Fort. He was a member of Holy Name-St. Mary’s Church, Swoyersville, and
its Holy Name Society, and the Swoyersville Auxiliary Police, and an associate
member of the American Legion Andrew Lawrence Post 644, Swoyersville. He was
preceded in death by his brother, Frank; and sisters, Stella Meckalavage
Songaila, Victoria Golden and Helen Skiengel. Surviving are his brothers,
Walter Skiengel, Swoyersville; John Skiendziel, Metuchen, N.J.; sisters, Mary
Gavlick, and Alice and Arlene Skiengel, all of Swoyersville; Amelia Granda,
Verona, N.J.; Jean Bonomo, Kingston; Sister Melita, OSF, and Sister Cynthia,
OSF, both of Allentown; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and
grandnephews. Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday from the Joseph L.
Wroblewski Funeral Home, Forty Fort, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10
a.m. in Holy Name-St. Mary’s Church. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery,
Swoyersville. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today.
