February 5, 2000 ussell Konnick, 79, formerly of Nanticoke, died Saturday at
the Mercy Health Care Center, Sheatown, Newport Township. Born in Nanticoke,
he was a son of the late Michael and Anna (Chemerinski) Konnick. He attended
Nanticoke schools. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II, serving in
the Pacific Theater and the Okinawa invasion. He was awarded a Bronze Star
medal. He was a steel worker with Union Carbide, Hillsboro, N.J., until his
retirement. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kathy Laut. Surviving
are his daughters, Elizabeth Meyers, Monterrey, Calif.; and Maria Mahoney,
Lawrence, N.Y.; sisters, Julia Yakavonis and Ann Janiczek, both of Nanticoke;
and Stephanie Shibilski, Collegeville; four grandchildren; three
great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Private funeral services will be
at 9 a.m. Wednesday from the Grontkowski Funeral Home P.C., Nanticoke, with a
Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Stanislaus Church, with the Rev.
Joseph R. Kakareka officiating. Interment will be in St. Nicholas Cemetery,
Sheatown. There will be no calling hours.
