WVIA-FM proudly presents mezzo-soprano Ellen Rutkowski in recital at the
next “Simply Grand” concert at 8 p.m. Thursday. This singer from Nanticoke
is well known regionally as a soloist and recitalist.
Her program consists of art songs and lieder by Brahms, Richard Strauss and
Mahler including the cycle Le Bestaire by Poulenc and the Popular Spanish
Songs by Manuel de Falla. In addition, Rutkowski has chosen a set of songs by
George Gershwin.
Rutkowski received bachelor’s degree in music therapy and psychology from
College Misericordia, and is completing a master’s degree in music education
with a concentration in voice pedagogy at Marywood University. Rutkowski is
also an adjunct instructor of voice at College Misericordia, Marywood
University and Luzerne County Community College, and maintains a private
studio in her home. In addition, she is director of music at Christ United
Methodist Church in Mountaintop.
Joining Rutkowski for the performance will be pianist John Curtis, director
of Fine Arts and director of Choral Activities at College Misericordia.
The concert will be recorded for future broadcast on WVIA-FM. Admission to
