February 6, 2000 ric L. Vrhel, of RD 2, Dallas, died Sunday at Geisinger
Wyoming Valley Medical Center. Born in Carverton, Kingston Township, he was
the son of Thelma (Thompson) Vrhel Case and the late Eric Vrhel. He was a 1954
graduate of Westmoreland High School, and Rockland Community College,
Rockland, N.Y. He retired in 1976 as a senior criminal investigator for the
Rockland County District Attorney’s Office. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran
of the Korean War. He was a member of Prince of Peace Episcopal Church,
Dallas; American Legion Post 672, Dallas; the National Rifle Association; and
the Career Services Employee Association/American Federation of State, County
and Municipal Employees retiree program; a founding member of the Kingston
Township Lions Club; and a diplomate in the American College of Forensic
Examiners. Surviving are his wife, the former Donna LaBruyere; children,
Roger, Andrew and Renee, at home; Eric, Jr., Dallas; and Karen Betts,
Wilkes-Barre; one granddaughter; brother, Melvin, Trucksville, Kingston
Township; and sister, Carol Fenstermaker, Whitehall. A memorial Eucharistic
service will be at 2 p.m. Feb. 19 in Prince of Peace Episcopal Church. The
Rev. Robert Nagy will officiate. Local arrangements are by the Mary A.
Harostock Funeral Home, Wilkes-Barre.
