HANOVER TWP. – The township on Monday received a $50,000 state grant to
offset the cost of sewer upgrades ordered by the state Department of
Environmental Protection. State Rep. John Yudichak, D-Plymouth, said DEP
ordered the township to clean approximately 5,000 feet of sewer line that
carries flow from Wilkes-Barre, Wilkes-Barre Township, Ashley, Sugar Notch,
Warrior Run and Hanover Township. DEP also required upgrades to manholes that
were below flood elevations along Solomon Creek, he said. The project, which
cost $56,000, was completed in September.

State Rep. Kevin Blaum, D-Wilkes-Barre, said the upgrade will make the
system large enough to accommodate increased flow from recent and future
development in Wilkes-Barre Township. The grant was awarded by the state
Department of Community and Economic Development’s Community Revitalization
Program. Blaum and Yudichak, who each represent part of the township,
presented a check to township officials Monday.
