Pupils at St. Jude’s School in Wright Township went down in history as part
of Catholic Schools Week, and they showed their parents, teachers and friends
what they could do besides schoolwork. A 20th Century Day and a talent show
were two of the highlights of the special Jan. 31-Feb. 4 week. The 15-act
talent show offered everything from displays of cheerleading prowess to
singing, dancing and comedy. For 20th Century Day, third- through eighth-grade
classes researched and dramatized one decade apiece. In eight-minute
presentations, they highlighted significant historical events from their
decade and wore period costumes for special effect. Teachers, families and
volunteers were honored at separate appreciation days. The volunteers also
were recognized at a special Mass, and pupils made spiritual bouquets to tell
their parents how much they appreciate their St. Jude’s education. A spirit
day, on which pupils were permitted to wear green and gold clothing and bright
jewelry and hats, also took place. The shiny outfits were meant to symbolize
light and reflect the “Lighting the Way to a New Century” theme.
