February 6, 2000 ildred A. Kunec, 79, a resident of Heritage House,
Wilkes-Barre, formerly of Ralph Street, North End Section of Wilkes-Barre,
died Sunday in the inpatient unit of Hospice Care of the VNA at Heritage
House. Born Oct. 28, 1920 in the Brookside section of Wilkes-Barre, she was a
daughter of the late Joseph and Agnes (Kielbowicz) Gonska. She was a graduate
of Wilkes-Barre schools and was a member of Sacred Heart/St. John’s Parish
Community, Wilkes-Barre, the parish Altar and Rosary Society and a former
member of the Church choir. She had worked in the Wyoming Valley’s garment
industry. She was preceded in death by her husband, former Wilkes-Barre Fire
Chief Joseph F. Kunec; brothers, John and Anthony; sister, Margaret Stesney;
and granddaughter, Keri Ann Kunec. Surviving are her sons, Joseph F., Jr.,
Wilkes-Barre; Kenneth C., Arlington, Va.; and Daniel L., Herndon, Va.; six
grandchildren; and sister, Bertha Kenski, Tucson, Ariz. Funeral services will
be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday from the John V. Morris Funeral Home, Wilkes-Barre,
with a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart of Jesus Roman Catholic Church,
Wilkes-Barre. The Rev. Joseph Gilbert will officiate. Interment will be in the
parish cemetery, Dallas. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Wednesday. The Altar and Rosary Society of his parish community will recite
the rosary at the funeral home at 3 p.m. Wednesday. Memorial donations may be
