Christopher Robinson, whose love of animals often reached legendary
proportions among family and friends, dreamed of one day becoming a
veterinarian.

AIDS robbed him of that chance.
Now, a scholarship in his memory will help deserving area students pursue a
career in veterinary medicine.

The Times Leader is providing $1,500 to establish the Christopher
Robinson-Times Leader Scholarship of the Luzerne Foundation.

We welcome further contributions from the community. Since the scholarship
is administered by the Luzerne Foundation, potential donors will enjoy the
maximum tax benefits allowed by the Internal Revenue Service.

Donations to the Christopher Robinson-Times Leader Scholarship can be sent
to the Luzerne Foundation, 613 Baltimore Drive, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702.

“In telling his story, Christopher became one of us,” said Times Leader
President and Publisher Patrick McHugh. “We see this as a way to preserve the
memory of a remarkable and courageous young man.”

Details of the scholarship will be finalized in the coming months. The
newspaper hopes to award its first grants to students graduating in the spring
of 2001.
