The Choral Society of Northeast Pennsylvania is pleased to announce the
concert performance of its annual high school workshop chorus. The concert
will take place at 3 p.m. on Sunday at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church (corner of
Ash and Taylor streets) in Scranton.

The concert, which includes high-school students from throughout
Northeastern Pennsylvania, will feature choral arrangements of vocal jazz
standards such as “Stormy Weather” by Harold Arlen and Ted Koehler,
“Georgia On My Mind” by Hoagy Carmichael and Stuart Gorrell and “It Don’t
Mean A Thing If It Ain’t Got That Swing.”
Additionally, the concert will include several vocal soloists from within
the workshop chorus. These students are considered some of the best singers
the region has to offer and this challenging program will feature them at
their best.

The piano accompanist for this program will be guest artist Harry Martenas.
A versatile keyboard artist, Martenas is fluent in a wide variety of styles
and regularly appears with regional classical, jazz, and rock ensembles.

The conductor of this year’s workshop is Alan Baker, the newly appointed
artistic director of The Choral Society, an assistant professor of music at
Bloomsburg University and director of music for the First Presbyterian Church
of Bloomsburg. Since 1994 he has held the position of artistic director of The
Lyric Consort and for five years was the artistic director of The Wyoming
Valley Children’s Chorus.

Admission to the concert is $5 with children under 12 admitted free. For
more information call 343-6707.
