February 7, 2000 homas W. Quigley, 83, of South Pine Street, Hazleton, died
Monday at Hazleton General Hospital. Born in Jeddo Number Five, he was a son
of the late James B. and Annie T. (Gallagher) Quigley. He was a 1934 graduate
of the former Hazle Township High School, and attended King’s College, Wilkes
Barre. Before retiring, he worked for North Sales, Hazleton, and the U.S.
Postal Service. He was a member of St. Gabriel’s Roman Catholic Church,
Hazleton; the parish Men’s Society; Hazleton Knights of Columbus Council 442;
and the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, Pope Benedict XV Assembly. He
co-founded the former South Side Civic Association, Hazleton. He was a U.S.
Army veteran of World War II, serving as a master sergeant with the 205th
Hospital Ship Complement aboard the USS Comfort in the Pacific Theater. He was
preceded in death by his wife, the former Margaret North; brothers, Joseph,
Raymond, John, Leo and James; and sister, Mary Burns. Surviving are his sons,
Thomas W., Jr., Conyngham; and John H., Hazleton; daughter, Margaret A.
“Mimi” Quigley, Plains Township; brother, Robert, Forty Fort~; one grandson
and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Thursday from
the Boyle Funeral Home, Hazleton, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m.
in St. Gabriel’s Church. Burial will be in the parish cemetery, Hazleton.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Memorial donations may be made to
St. Gabriel’s Church or St. Boniface Interparochial School, Wilkes Barre.
