A judge has dismissed a sexual harassment lawsuit filed by a Duryea woman
against her former manager at the Sears Roebuck & Co. store at the Wyoming
Valley Mall. Judge Hugh Mundy tossed out the suit after determining Patricia
DeAngelo had failed to make a timely filing of a complaint with the state
Human Relations Commission, according to a court order filed last week in
Luzerne County Court of Common Pleas. DeAngelo, of Meyers Street, filed the
suit in October against Sears and her manager, Thomas Cavanaugh, claiming
Cavanaugh made offensive remarks and touched her without her permission.
DeAngelo claimed she reported the acts to Sears officials but no action was
taken. She had sought more than $35,000 in damages.
