February 7, 2000 argaret (Shamun) Ross, 78, of South Main Road, Mountaintop,
died Monday at the home of her daughter, Karen Evans. Born Feb. 1, 1922, in
Yestreb, Czechoslovakia, she was a daughter of the late Michael and Mary
(Kakas) Shamun. She attended school in Ashley and lived there 15 years. She
lived on North Mountain Boulevard for 48 years and in Mountaintop for most of
her life. She was a sewing machine operator at Catalina Dress Co., Ashley, for
20 years, retiring in 1985. She was a deacon at Mountaintop Presbyterian
Church; and a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union and the
American Association of Retired Persons, both in Wilkes-Barre. She was
preceded in death by her husband, Anthony G.; sisters, Anna Kanoc, Elizabeth
Shamun and Mary Shamun; and brothers, Michael and Joseph. Surviving are her
sons, Frederick M., Edmeston, N.Y.; Anthony G., Jr., Wilkes-Barre; and Ricardo
M., Mountaintop; daughters, Janice Bebey, Lehman Township; Antoinette Stout,
Mountaintop; and Karen Evans, with whom she resided; 17 grandchildren, seven
great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be
at 10 a.m. in Mountaintop Presbyterian Church. The Rev. James Shanley will
officiate. Interment will be in Albert Cemetery, Wright Township. Friends may
call from 6 to 9 this evening at the George A. Strish, Inc., Funeral Home,
Ashley. Memorial donations may be made to the Diabetes Association or the
American Cancer Society at the funeral home.
