Francis Massage, of Beaver Meadows, is celebrating his 96th birthday today, May 25, 2018.

Francis was married for 48 years to the late Kathleen (Veglia) Massage. He has five children, Nadia, of Dalton; David, of New York; James, of New York; Christine, of Hazleton; and Anni B. He also has two grandchildren, Angela Katherin and David Francis Jr.

Francis was affiliated with the U.S. Forestry Service as a fire tower ranger and member of the Civilian Conservation Corps in New Mexico.

During World War II, he served as a petty officer first class aboard the USS Republic in the U.S. Navy. He saw action throughout the Pacific Theater and Australia, including in the Battle of Guadalcanal, and survived the infamous Typhoon Heidi during that period.

Francis is a charter member of VFW Post 8225 Beaver Meadows and served as senior vice commander.

Before retiring, he was employed at Dorr-Oliver Inc. for 35 years.

Francis was a well-known coach for the Beaver Banks championship Little League District 18 all star teams, and an avid bowler and gardener, and his greatest passion was his cross-country road tripping frequently with his family.
