WILKES-BARRE TWP. — The Lord & Taylor distribution center on Highland Park Boulevard has notified the state Department of Labor & Industry that it is laying off 202 workers in March and April.

The L&I website indicates the layoffs are due to “closure,” but Lord & Taylor’s parent company HBC says the local center is actually staying open.

A corporate spokesperson told WNEP that the 202 people losing their jobs work in the building’s e-commerce fulfillment operation. The company is also trying to help the soon-to-be furloughed employees find new jobs.

Meanwhile, the WNEP report says 200 new jobs will be available at Lord & Taylor’s site in Pottsville.
