FORTY FORT — If you’ve been looking for an event space that has a certain je ne sais quoi, a space that recently opened in an eclectic spot in Forty Fort might have what you need.

The Room at 900 opened late last year in the distinctive 900 Rutter building, located at 900 Rutter Avenue in Forty Fort.

The Room at 900 turns a massive room located in the arts building into an event space where the opportunities are virtually limitless.

John Phillips, owner of the MCR Design Group which runs the building, told a reporter that the Room is being billed as a new sort of event space.

“What we’ve been doing with it now is working with the concept of bringing the outdoors, indoors,” Phillips said.

According to Phillips, that comes in part from the unique size of the space. He said the Room is one of the larger spaces in the area, including uniquely high ceilings.

This has allowed the space to experiment with various set-ups, stringing lights and decorative plants from the ceiling.

With multiple arrangement possibilities, Phillips said numerous styles of events are possible, but he said rustic-themed events seem to be especially popular at the space.

Phillips said that, one of the main draws to have an event at the Room at 900 is the building itself.

“One thing that’s different about 900 is that it’s still a little hidden gem,” he said of the building, which is home to numerous stores, space for a restaurant and, now, the event space. “The one thing about the 900 building is mystery. We want people to discover the atmosphere.”

Phillips said the space can host nearly any type of event you can dream up: weddings, galas, nonprofit events, sweet 16s and other types of events.

“We draw from the imagination and creativity of our clients,” Phillips said.

The Room can host events of up to 350 guests, and features exclusive catering by local restaurateur Rob Friedman.

With eclectic work from plenty of artists tucked around every corner, drawing inspiration from the art scenes of cities like Los Angeles, New York and Philadelphia, Phillips said the 900 building, and the Room by extension, is unlike anything else you can find in our area.

“It’s big city, come to a smaller area,” he said.

John Phillips, owner of the MCR Design Group which runs the building, said The Room at 900 offers many possibilities for arrangements that lend themselves to distinctive events.
