Rita and Carmen Mauriello, Exeter, observed their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday, Aug. 12, 2017. The couple was married Aug. 12, 1967 in the Immaculate Conception Church, West Pittston, by the late Father Leonard Meckwood. Clare Brennan Salerno, friend of the bride, was the maid of honor. Joseph Salerno, friend of the groom, was best man.

Rita is the former Rita Botteon, daughter of the late Victoria and John Botteon of West Pittston. She was employed in the Wyoming Area School District as the district reading supervisor and title 1 coordinator. Since her retirement she has worked as a consultant for the district’s Title 1 reading program.

Carmen is the son of the late Agnes and Nicholas Mauriello, Exeter. Carmen was employed as business manager at the Luzerne Intermediate Unit #18 and is presently retired.

The couple have one son, Carmen Jr., who resides with his family in Ossining, New York. Carmen Jr. is employed as a high school special education teacher in the Mamaroneck School District, in Mamaroneck, New York. His wife, Acacia Stevens Mauriello, is employed as a retention specialist at Manhattan College, Riverdale, New York.

The couple have tw0 grandchildren, Dashiell Paul and Dante Joseph.

Mr. and Mrs. Mauriello attended the annual Diocese of Scranton Wedding Anniversary mass and reception in June at St. Peter’s Cathedral, Scranton, where they had their marriage blessed by Bishop Joseph Bambera.

The occasion is being observed with a family get-together and dinner at Gricos’ Restaurant, Exeter. The couple will celebrate their anniversary with a Southern Caribbean cruise with friends in the fall.
