Luzerne County Historical Society: New library hours, starting Jan. 3, will be: Bishop Library, 49 S. Franklin St., Wilkes-Barre: noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday and Friday, noon to 6 p.m. Thursday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday; LCHS Museum, 69 Rear S. Franklin St., Wilkes-Barre: 2 to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

Dupont V.F.W. Post 4909 will hold its next meeting at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 5 at the post home. Items of importance will be discussed and reports given. Commander Mark Roney will preside. The Home Association meeting will follow. Food, refreshments and camaraderie will occur after both meetings. The Home Association will hold its annual Valentine’s Day Dinner-Dance from 7:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. Feb. 10. A dinner buffet will be served from 7:30 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. Music will be provided by Millennium from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. The bar will be open from 7:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Door prizes will be awarded. West Wyoming American Legion Morning Star Post 904 will hold its monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 11 at the West Wyoming Hose Company #1 on Shoemaker Avenue. All members are invited to attend along with any local veterans looking to join.

North-End Slovak Citizens Club will hold its monthly meeting at 2 p.m. Jan. 14. The club is located at 635 N. Main St., Wilkes-Barre. All members are invited to attend. President Robert Palchanis will preside over the meeting. Refreshments will be served after the meeting.

NEPA Coast Guard Veterans Association will conduct its monthly meeting at 6 p.m. Jan. 17 Perkins Restaurant on Route 315 in Pittston Township. All Coast Guard veterans or active duty members are welcome to attend this meeting or they may contact neil Morrison at 570-288-6818 for additional information.

DAV Chapter 102 will meet at 7 p.m. Jan. 18 at the V.F.W. on Wyoming Avenue in Kingston. All members are welcome.

Wyoming Firemans Relief Association has rescheduled its Jan. 14 meeting for 1 p.m. Jan. 21 at Wyoming Hose Co. #2. President Joseph Kopko will preside. Election of officers will be conducted.

Nanticoke Historical Society will present a free public program at 7 p.m. Jan. 22 at St. Faustina Cultural Center, 38 W. Church St., Nanticoke. This is the former St. Stans Church. Presenters will be Robert Wolensky and Michael Chimola. The presentation is titled “Who Killed Rebel Miners’ Union President, Tom Maloney? — The Wyoming Valley Good Friday Bombings of April 6, 1936.” Refreshments will be available.

Kingston Historical Society will hold its regular monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Jan. 25 at the Kingston Municipal Building. Ray Lowery, former borough administrator, will talk about Kingston’s 1972 flood recovery. New members and guests are welcome.

Friends of the Back Mountain Memorial Library, have set April 19 as the date for their annual Luncheon with a Special Author. The event will take place at the Appletree Terrace, Newberry Estates, Dallas. Tickets will go on sale in March at the library on Huntsville Road in Dallas. More details will be announced as they become available.
