Spaghetti dinners, at St. Mary Antiochian Orthodox Church, 905 S. Main St., Wilkes-Barre. 4 to 6 p.m. each Thursday in the church hall. $8, includes salad, pasta dinner, bread, dessert and beverage. Soup Sale, to benefit Alzheimer’s Association, will take place through Feb. 27 at the Heritage Hill senior community, 800 Sixth St., Weatherly. Orders for chicken pastina and beef barley soup can be made by calling Rachael or Toni at 570-427-4500. Each quart costs $7, and soups can be picked up from 2 to 5 p.m. March 7.
Soup for the Souls,will take place from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Feb. 8 at Exaltation of the Holy Cross Church, 420 N. Main Road, Buttonwood section of Hanover Township. Pre-Lenten bake sale at St. Benedict’s Parish, 155 Austin Ave., Parsons Section of Wilkes-Barre, before and after the 5:30 p.m. Mass Feb. 10 and the 8 a.m. Mass Feb. 11. A variety of home baked goods will be available.
All-you-can-eat Soup Supper, Plains United Methodist Church 133 N. Main Street, Plains, 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Feb. 10. This is a sit-down event with more than 20 different soups to try. 53rd annual “German Nite,” St. Nicholas Church, 226 S. Washington St., Wilkes-Barre, starting at 6 p.m. Feb. 10. A meal of pork and sauerkraut, chicken francaise, bratwurst, mashed potatoes, haluski and green beans will be served from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m., and live music will be performed by Schutzengiggles Oompah Band from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. Tickets cost $30 and are available in advance only. Annual Pig Roast will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Feb. 10 at the Daddow-Isaacs Dallas American Legion Post 672. The menu features pork, sauerkraut, potatoes, gravy, drinks and dessert. Take-out will be available. Dancing will follow the meal from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. A donation of $9 for adults and $6 for children under 12 will be appreciated. Piggie/Holubtsi Dinner, will take place on Feb. 11 at the parish school hall of Saints Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church at the corner of North River and West Chestnut streets in Wilkes-Barre. Homemade Pirogie Sale, will take place from noon to 4 p.m. Feb. 14 (Ash Wednesday) at St. John’s Russian Orthodox Cathedral church center, 700 Hill St., Mayfield. Pirogie cost $7 per dozen and can be bought deep fried or frozen. No orders. First come, first served. To place “business orders” fax to 570-876-2534 no later than Feb. 12. Business orders delivered upon request.
Clam chowder fund-raisers at Prince of Peace Episcopal Church, 420 Main Street, Dallas, will be held on Feb. 16 and the subsequent Fridays of Lent. Orders should be placed by Wednesday of each week for alternating offerings of Chef John Huak’s New England and Manhattan clam chowder. Fish Fry, will take place from 3 to 7 p.m. on Feb. 16 and 23 and March 2, 9, 16 and 23 in the church hall of the Good Shepherd Polish National Church, 269 E. Main St., Plymouth. Menu includes fried haddock, french fries, coleslaw and dessert for $10.50. Manhattan clam chowder, halushki with homemade noodles, pierogi, potato pancakes and beverages will also be available. All-You-Can-Eat Fish Fry, will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. Feb. 16 and every Friday through Lent until March 30 at the Sylvania Lodge in Reyburn, 249 Trailing Pine Road, Shickshinny. Menu includes fried fish, baked fish, french fries baked potatoes, chicken tenders, vegetable, tartar sauce, hot sauce, coleslaw, dinner rolls, coffee, ice tea, water and five kinds of cake. $10 for adults; $5 for children 6 to 12. Children under 6 enter free.
Annual Chili Luncheon at First Presbyterian Church, 97 S. Franklin St., Wilkes-Barre, immediately following 10 a.m. worship service on Feb. 18. Members and friends of the church will bring their favorite chili in a crock-pot, and/or cornmeal muffins, to the church prior to worship. Pierogi sale at St. Monica’s Parish, West 8th Street, West Wyoming. Pierogis will be made fresh Feb. 22 and 23 and available for pickup before and after the 4 p.m. Mass on Feb. 24. Meatloaf dinner, will take place from 4 to 6:30 p.m. April 28 at St. Martin in the Fields, the little stone church at the corner of Nuangola and Church roads in Mountain Top. The meal costs $10 for ages 12 and older and $5 for ages 5 to 11, and those younger than 5 are admitted free. Welsh cookies will also be available for purchase.
