FALLS — The Falls Active Adult Center, state Route 92, Exeter Township: March 15: Donna LaBarr, author, public speaker and health coach will be here from 9 a.m. to noon to discuss “Balancing Your Diet and Health.” This seminar is free of charge. Please RSVP to Twila by March 9 if you wish to attend. Also March 15: St. Patrick’s Day celebration with a special lunch; March 16: The Mobile Food Pantry will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. This is available to anyone in Luzerne or Wyoming counties who meets the income guidelines. The center encourages anyone who enjoys crafts, knitting or crocheting to join the group on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to noon. Yarn, needlepoint kits and many other craft items available. Personal projects are welcome, but the center usually has an activity planned free of charge. Anyone wishing to attend the center for a meal at lunch for a suggested donation of $2 for those 60 and over or $5.07 for those under 60, should RSVP to Twila at 570-388-2623 by 12:30 p.m. the day before. The center is open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. It is located on state Route 92 in Exeter Township.

LUZERNE COUNTY — The Apprise Program, sponsored by the Area Agency on Aging, is seeking volunteers to train in assisting area elders. Volunteer counselors participate in an extensive training program and can assist with presentations at various organizations and health fairs and a variety of other tasks. LUZERNE/WYOMING COUNTIES — Volunteers 55 and older in Luzerne and Wyoming Counties are needed to visit senior adults, who would like conversation and socialization. Men and women in The Senior Peer Counseling Program (SPCP) of Community Counseling Services and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) who qualify visit weekly. After completing the screening and training, Senior Peer Counselors see individuals 60 and older in their homes. People who are enthusiastic about working with older adults are trained in basic counseling and listening skills to provide this valuable service. Both volunteers and homebound seniors are welcome. LUZERNE/WYOMING COUNTIES — Economic/Benefits Check Up (Sponsored by National Council on Aging) helps older adults find and enroll in public and private benefits programs. They can also find an online application for Medicare’s Extra Help. Tips and other resources are available in the community to help maintain budget, save money, find work and help with financial freedom. LUZERNE/WYOMING COUNTIES — Active Adult Centers will celebrate National Nutrition Month on March 22 will a nutritious lunch at area centers. Seniors 60 and older are invited to attend a center for lunch for a suggested donation of $2. Reservations can be made at least one day in advance by calling before noon any of the 16 Area Agency on Aging sponsored centers throughout Luzerne and Wyoming counties. MOUNTAIN TOP — Mountain Top Social Club will meet at 1 p.m. on March 27 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Route 309, Mountain Top. Trips to the Hollywood Casino will start on March 22 and will continue every fourth Thursday of each month through November. The cost is $25 per person. The price includes a $35 rebate to play and a $5 buffet voucher or 25 percent off a casual dinner. The bus leaves Mountain Top at 8:15 a.m. and St. Als at 8:45 a.m. The April 17 bus trip to Sight and Sound Theater in Lancaster to see the show “Jesus” is sold out. A bus trip for a dinner and show at Hunterdon Hills Playhouse, N.J., to see “Steel Magnolias” on May 10 will leave Mountain Top at 8:15 p.m. and St. Al’s at 8:45 p.m. Cost is $82.00 per person due by April 1. PITTSTON — St. Joseph’s Senior Social Club will hold its traditional eighth annual St. Joseph’s Table on March 15. The buffet luncheon catered by Arcaro & Genell will be held at 1 p.m. in the parish center. The luncheon costs $15 per person and is open to friends, family and devotees of St. Joseph and the public. PLAINS TOWNSHIP — The Plains Senior Citizens will resume their meetings at noon March 21 at the Saint Benedict Parish Church hall, 155 Austin Ave., Parsons section of Wilkes-Barre. To enter the church participants must walk down about five steps. The host and hostesses for the March 21 meeting are Donald Emerick, Marie Fender, Gloria Flynn, Peter Gillott, Jeanne Gross and Jack Hoover. They are requested to be at the Church hall by 11:30 a.m. to set up refreshments. Maureen Madga will collect members yearly dues of five dollars at the meeting. New members 55 and over are welcome to join. The group meet the first and third Wednesday of each month at noon.

PLYMOUTH — The Senior Citizens’ Friendship Club of St. Mary’s will hold its next meeting at 1 p.m. March 26 in the Holy Child Building on Willow Street in Plymouth. Servers will be Margie Masiewicz, Maggie Panek, Phyllis Saluski, Florence Shaw and Helen Skovira. New members are always welcome. Building is handicapped accessible.

WILKES-BARRE — The St. Robert Bellarmine Seniors have announced trips to the Hollywood Casino on the fourth Thursday of each month and to the Sight and Sound Theater in Lancaseter on April 17. Anyone interested in the trips should call Otto Eime at 570-407-0056. The group will hold its Mother/Father’s Day luncheon on May 9 at R&D Memories in Hanover Township. Further information on the luncheon is available by calling Jane at 570—822-7903. A covered dish luncheon is planned for April, and details will be discussed at the next meeting on March 14. WYOMING/WEST WYOMING — The Wyoming/West Wyoming Senior Citizens will meet at 1:30 p.m. March 20 at St. Monica Parish Hall, West Eighth Street, West Wyoming. Bakers are Marion Mantione and JoAnn Kwasny.
