Kingston Historical Society, will meet from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. April 26 at the Wyoming Valley West Middle School (formerly Kingston High School). This will be a celebration of the 90th anniversary of the building of the high school. There will be displays of the history of the school. Dallas Chapter Eastern Star Building Association, will hold an inside/outside craft, vendor and flea market sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 28 at the association home, 15 Foster St., Dallas, behind CVS drugstore. Nanticoke Ladies Auxiliary Post 350, will meet at 6:30 p.m. May 1 at the post home. Nomination and election of officers will take place, and a report will be given on the recent hoagie sale. All members are urged to attend.
Mountain Top American Legion Post 781, will hold a craft and vendor fair from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 6 at the post home, 1550 Henry Drive, Mountain Top. From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., a barbecue chicken dinner will take place at a cost of $9 per person. American Legion Riders will also be accepting donations for homeless veterans and their families. Clothing, boots, shoes, hats, gloves and coats for men and women, backpacks and sleeping bags, blankets and tarps (dark or camo preferred) will be accepted.
Dupont VFW Post 4909, will meet at 7:30 p.m. May 7 at the post home. Commander Mark Roney will preside. The Home Association meeting will follow. Food, refreshments and camaraderie will occur after both meetings.
PA Quilters Guild, will hold its monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. May 7 in the community room of the John Heinz Rehab Center on Mundy Street in Wilkes-Barre. A brief business meeting will be held followed by refreshments and “show and tell.” Modern quilt designer Rachel Rossi will present a trunk show that evening. New members and guests are welcome.
Wilkes University Polish Room Committee, will meet at 5 p.m. May 8 at Bettelli’s Villa on Kidder Street in Wilkes-Barre. The calling committee for the May meeting will be Fran Macy, Mary Ann Pudlosky, Donna Stankiewicz and Joyce Latoski. The seventh annual Polish Room Tea will take place at noon June 13 at the Irem Temple Country Club in Dallas. Susan Najaka and Mary Lou Zaleski are co-chars for the event.
Wyoming Valley Civil War Round Table, will meet at 7 p.m. May 10 in the lower level of the Daddow-Isaacs American Legion post, 730 Memorial Highway, Dallas. The program for the evening is titled, “White Abolitionists, Black Soldiers of Waverly, PA,” which chronicles the lives of 13 fugitive slaves and their sons who served in the U.S. Colored Troops and how they were regarded in the North. Sons of American Legion Squadron 644, will hold a Mother’s Day Breakfast from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. May 12 at the post home, 259 Shoemaker St., Swoyersville. The menu features omelets, a waffle station, eggs, sausage, hash browns, creamed beef, French toast and regular toast. North End Slovak Citizens Club, will meet at 2 p.m. May 20 at the club, 635 N. Main St., Wilkes-Barre. All members are invited to attend. President Robert Palchanis will preside. Refreshments will be served after the meeting.
Wyoming Valley Woman’s Club, will sponsor a trip to see “Nunsense” at the Hunterdon Hills Playhouse in New Jersey on Aug. 8. The trip costs $90, which includes bus seat, ticket to the show and lunch.
