MMI Prep team wins 2018 Luzerne County Envirothon


A team of students from MMI Preparatory School, Freeland took first place at the 39th Annual Luzerne County Envirothon held on May 2 at the Luzerne County Fair Grounds near Dallas. Nearly 135 students representing 27 teams from seven high schools competed in the event with MMI’s Team-A, the overall winner with a team score of 407 points. Second and third runners-up respectively were MMI Teams B and C. The MMI Prep Team A will go on to compete at the PA State Envirothon, May 22-23 at the Susquehanna University and Camp Mount Luther. The Envirothon is an environmental competition which tests students’ knowledge of aquatics, forestry, wildlife, soils and land use along with this year’s current issue, ‘Benefits of Grassland and Pastureland Management.’ Shown are John Slotterback, DCNR: Phillip White, PA Game Commission; Michael Mele, MMI instructor; Grant Warren, Alexander Sessock, Lauren Babinetz, Dominique Kline and Kaitlyn McGeehan, students; and Gerald Kapral, PA Game Commission.
