The General Federation of Women’s Clubs-West Side recently provided a tutoring/literacy program for kindergarten students at Wyoming Valley West State Street Elementary School. The program ran from September through May. Club members tutored eight kindergarten classes with 208 students participating in the program. The program supports GFWC PA State President’s Project “Enrich, Educate, Empower — Every Child Every Day.” Tutors helped students in recognizing two- and three-dimensional shapes, identifying numbers, counting in sequence to 100, identifying capital and lower case letters, recognizing letter/sound relationships, and identifying sight words as well as reading. The tutoring program will resume in September.
