All-you-can-eat pig roast, noon to 4 p.m. July 8, Queen of the Apostles Parish Hall, 742 Spring St., Avoca. Take-out dinners will be available all day and additional seating is available under an outdoor tent. Menu includes roasted pig on the spit, wimpies, hot dogs, corn on the cob, salads, desserts, soda, and water. There will also be a cash prize grand raffle, basket raffle, children’s games and a bake sale. Summer Take-Out BBQ, 4:30 to 7 p.m. July 20, Trucksville United Methodist Church Educational Facility, 40 Knob Hill Road, Trucksville (enter Shavertown for GPS). Meal includes half chicken, backed potato, homemade desserts and beverages. Reservations required. Call 570-696-3897 between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Monday through Friday.

27th annual Chicken BBQ, will take place from 4:30 to 7 p.m. July 21 at the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, 1422 Mt. Zion Road, Exeter Township. Take-out begins at 4 p.m. $10 for adults; $6.50 for children.

Family-style ham dinner, 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. July 28, Sweet Valley Volunteer Fire Co., 5383 Main Road, Sweet Valley. Take-outs begin at 4 p.m. Cost is $12 for adults, $6 for children ages 6 to 11 and children younger than 6 eat free. Info, 570-477-5121.

Chicken BBQ and basket raffle, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 12, sponsored by Prince of Peace Parish in the parking lot of Arcaro and Genell Restaurant, Main Street, Old Forge. Polish Dinner and Polka Mass, sponsored by the Ladies of Mary Society of Exaltation of the Holy Cross Church, 420 Main Road, Buttonwood, Hanover Township. Parish of St. Barbara Summer Festival and Car & Truck Show, 5 to 10 p.m. July 21 and noon to 7 p.m. July 22, with homemade meatball hoagies, porketta sandwiches, funnel cakes, ‘the best potato pancakes in the Valley’ and more. Hobbie Volunteer Fire Company Carnival – A Real Country “AfFAIR,” Aug. 3, 4 and 5 at the carnival grounds, 613 W. County Road, Wapwallopen. Homemade foods include pigs-in-the-blanket, ham and bean soup, chicken corn soup, fresh-cut fries and funnel cakes. Manning’s ice cream will be served with shakes, root beer floats and cider floats; pork and chicken barbecues, apple dumplings, pierogies and deep-fried Oreos.
