Hobbie Volunteer Fire Company Carnival – A Real Country “AfFAIR,” Aug. 3, 4 and 5 at the carnival grounds, 613 W. County Road, Wapwallopen. Homemade foods include pigs-in-the-blanket, ham and bean soup, chicken corn soup, fresh-cut fries and funnel cakes. Manning’s ice cream will be served with shakes, root beer floats and cider floats; pork and chicken barbecues, apple dumplings, pierogies and deep-fried Oreos.

65th Annual St. Jude Parish Picnic 4 to 11 p.m. Aug. 10 and 11 and noon to 9 p.m. Aug. 12 on the parish grounds at 420 South Mountain Boulevard, Mountain Top. The picnic features local, ethnic and international foods – new this year husk-steamed corn, desserts galore in the Sweet House and an open pit Chicken BBQ on Aug. 12, starting at noon. Entertainment on Aug. 10 will be Peaceful Chaos from Above with karaoke from 7 to 10 p.m. and on Aug. 11, Sister Esther from 7 to 11 p.m. The picnic grand prize raffle is $10,000. There is plenty of on-site parking including handicap parking and shuttle service parking to and from Crestwood High School.
