Aug. 23, Blood Pressure screening by a nurse from the Meadows at 12:30 p.m. followed by bingo at 1 p.m. sponsored by the Meadows. Aug,. 24, at 11:00 a.m. We will have a special recognition program for firefighters, EMS workers and police. We will be honoring the late Bryon Dickson who lost his life in the line of duty. Please join us for this special program. LUZERNE/WYOMING COUNTIES — Seniors 55 years or older are needed to visit homebound senior adults 60 years and older in their homes once a week. Senior Peer Counseling Program (SPCP) of Community Counseling Services provides training for volunteers in Luzerne and Wyoming Counties to visit seniors for conversation and supportive socialization. After completing the screening and training in basic counseling and listening skills, Senior Peer Counselors are paired with clients. Clients as well as volunteers are welcome to contact Rhoda Tillman at [email protected] or 570-552-6107. This program is affiliated with the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP). There is no charge to participate. The next volunteer training begins in July.

LUZERNE/WYOMING COUNTIES — The Area Agency on Aging for Luzerne/Wyoming Counties still has available Senior Farmers Market vouchers for seniors who have not picked up their vouchers yet. The Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program, developed by the Federal and State Dept. of Agriculture, provides each eligible seniors with four $5 vouchers ($20) which can only be used to purchase Pennsylvania grown fresh fruits and vegetables from a participating farmer’s market stand. To be eligible, an individual is required to: be at least 60 years old or turn 60 before Dec. 31, 2018, live in Luzerne or Wyoming Counties, and meet the 2018 Household Total Income Requirements: One person — $22,459; Two people — $30,451. If there are more than two people residing in household, please call Rhonda at 570 822-1158 for the income eligibility requirements. Anyone residing in an assisted living facility, nursing home or convent where meals are provided does not qualify for the program.

MOUNTAIN TOP — Mountain Top Social Club will meet on Aug. 14 and 28 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church on Route 309 in Mountain Top. The Aug. 14 meeting will be the club’s auction, and members can bring items to sell. Trips to the Hollywood Casino will continue every fourth Thursday of each month through November. The cost is $25 per person. The price includes a $30 rebate to play and a $5 buffet voucher or 25 percent off a casual dinner. Payment is requested by the beginning of each month. PLYMOUTH — The Senior Citizens’ Friendship Club of St. Mary’s in Plymouth will meet at 1 p.m. Aug. 13, in the Holy Child School Building on Willow Street in Plymouth. Servers will be Jean Mihalick, Dorothy Sullivan, Jane Thomas and Midge Malshefski. The trip to Wildwood Crest, Sept. 6 through 10 is filled. There will be a trip on Nov. 28 to the Waterfront at Silver Birches to see “A Country Christmas.” The price is $63. Call Ann at 570-779-3203 for reservations. Each seat is assigned when the reservation is paid in full. New members are always welcome. The building is handicapped accessible.

SWOYERSVILLE — The Swoyersville Senior Citizens, will meet at 1 p.m. Aug. 8 at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Church social hall in president Liz Zdanciewicz presiding. New members are welcome to attend the business and social hour.

WILKES-BARRE — The St. Robert Bellarmine Seniors will meet on Sept. 12. Servers will be Regina Corba, Ann Marie Dennis and Marie Kumiega. The club will host a trip to Silver Birches for the Autumn Festival on Oct. 18. Hollywood Casino trips are scheduled for the fourth Thursday of each month. The bus will leave from St. Al’s at 7:45 a.m. Anyone interested in the trips should call Otto Eime at 570-407-0056.

WYOMING/WEST WYOMING — The Wyoming/West Wyoming Senior Citizens will meet at 1:30 p.m. Aug. 7 at St. Monica Parish Hall, 363 W. 8th St., West Wyoming. Bakers are Mary Matan and JoAnn Kwasny. New members are welcome. For information, call JoAnn at 570-283-3388.

WHITE HAVEN — The White Haven Area Senior Citizens, will hold their Picnic at 4 p.m. Aug. 21 at the L&L Fire Hall. The menu for the Picnic features tossed salad, chicken marsala, piggies in a blanket, scalloped potatoes, coleslaw, Italian marinated vegetable salad, dessert and beverages. The event costs $22 for members and $27 for non-members.
