Mackey

WILKES-BARRE — A city man was charged with cruelty to animals after he allegedly put a cat in a washing machine and slammed the feline against a wall killing the domestic animal.

Police said Donovan Mackey, 20, of North Pennsylvania Avenue, went to a residence on North Main Street looking for his girlfriend.

Mackey’s girlfriend was not at the residence.

Police allege Mackey captured the woman’s cat and placed it in a washing machine he turned on. Mackey then wrapped the cat in a bed sheet and slammed it against several walls, police said.

Police said the force of the slams put holes in the walls.

The cat was killed in the act, police said.

Police said Mackey put the carcass in a garbage bag and tossed it in the rear yard.

Mackey was jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility on a probation violation.
