The Riverfront Parks Committee has scheduled ChalkFest for Saturday, Sept. 28 with a rain date of Saturday, Oct. 5.

Activities will take place 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Millennium Circle Portal on the River Common (River Street in Wilkes-Barre.)

All children will receive a free container of chalk, and are encourged to show their creativity by drawing on the sidewalk.

Other activities include environmental displays, face painting, and an appearance by Smokey Bear, who is celebrating his 80th birthday this year.

In addition to a Giant Smokey Bear provided by the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Bureau of Forestry, there will be a Smokey Bear community mural outlined for attendees to complete and Don Shappelle & the Pickups will perform a special song dedicated to Smokey.
