Sometimes we all need a night out. Isn’t that right?

I had a super busy work week last week, so by the time Thursday rolled around I was ready for some socialization. And it just so happened there were two local events happening to fill my cup.

First was a photography exhibit featuring local photographer Olivia Deluca from the Social Fabric Collective, a 501c3 that utilizes photography, design and other artistic media to empower diverse and dynamic high school students.

You can learn more about the organization by visiting socialfabriccollective.org.

On Thursday night, Olivia’s fabulous photography, shot everywhere from Wilkes-Barre and New York City to Uruguay and the Bahamas, was on display. Her photo subjects are diverse, and it was neat to see her work hanging at the Circle Centre for the Arts (the home of the Wyoming Valley Art League).

Olivia’s wonderful parents, Sal and Valeria, brought food from MVD Restaurant & Bar, which they own. Everyone in attendance appreciated making small plates of food as they perused the many photos on the walls.

The exhibit is on display through March 14. Visit wyomingvalleyartleague.org for gallery hours and more information.

There was also the Wilkes-Barre POWER! event at The Down Pour nearby.

Kiss Theatre Co. was the featured non-profit, so visitors to the networking mixer heard all about the upcoming Dancing Stars of Wilkes-Barre fundraiser.

POWER’s own President Rich Perry is dancing to raise funds.

I love these mixers because you get to meet community members from different industries with varied backgrounds.

There were more than 50 people who turned out to socialize, connect and hear about Kiss Theatre.

Bravo to the POWER! team for keeping the momentum going and planning events that make an impact.

You can visit Wilkes-Barre POWER! on Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn to learn more.

We need groups like this to keep us engaged and active in our local communities.

Consider attending a POWER! event in the future or visiting the Circle Centre for the Arts to see the latest gallery exhibit.

Get involved. It’s worth it.
