Consider it Christmas in July

TAYLOR — As part of its Christmas in July celebration, Act Out Theatre Group will present the holiday classic, “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” July 26 and 27.
The production is the result of a two-week intensive summer camp.
“The campers have been together from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday,” said Dan Pittman, owner and artistic director of Act Out Theatre Group. “They’ve been doing a lot more than just working on ‘Rudolph,’ though. They’ve created original jukebox musicals, played plenty of camp games, and crafted, too.”
Campers learned two songs on the first day of camp and auditioned that day, Pittman explained. Then they spent half of their day working on “Rudolph” and half working on the other camp aspects.
Norah Kazimi, of Harveys Lake, plays the title character.“I like playing Rudolph because I get to perform with a great cast with very powerful voices and acting skills,” Kazimi said. “Rudolph is also a nice and caring character. They went through so much as a child and then overcame it.”
Kalen Churcher of Plymouth is the show’s director. She said the musical features all the songs people have come to love, including “Silver and Gold,” “Island of Misfit Toys” and “There’s Always Tomorrow.”
There’s even a bit of a sing-a-long with the audience. “You really feel like you’re in the television cartoon,” said Churcher. “It’s been such a fun production to work on this summer.”
“Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” runs for two days on the Act Out stage in Taylor: 7 p.m. on July 26 and 3 p.m. on July 27. Tickets in advance are $15 for adults and $10 for students/seniors. Tickets at the door are $20 and $12 respectively. Those in attendance should be aware of the use of fog in the production.
Group rates are available for groups of 10 or more attending one performance.

The musicals represent just one of the activities campers participated in over the past two weeks.
“My favorite part of camp is getting to spend time with all the amazing people I have gotten to meet,” said Zoey Schlittler of Dunmore. “The environment in camp is so welcoming and supportive.”
