St. David’s Society of the Wyoming Valley will meet at 5:45 p.m. Feb. 11 at CrisNics, the corner of Horton and Barney streets in Wilkes-Barre. This is the last meeting before our annual banquet and we encourage as many members as possible to attend. New members are always welcome. We will also have a children’s book reading at 10 a.m. Feb. 21 at the Osterhout Library, 71 South Franklin St., Wilkes-Barre. Weather permitting, at 1 p.m., we will lay a wreath at the Miners Memorial on Public Square, next to the King’s College building.
59th annual German Nite. Doors open at 5 p.m. Feb. 14 in St. Nicholas – St. Mary School Auditorium, South Washington Street, Wilkes-Barre, for this traditional pre-Lenten feast. German-style meal will be served buffet style 6 to 7 p.m. followed by music for dancing from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. with the band Schnitzel. Mt Zion United Methodist Church “all you can eat” soup and salad supper, 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, with a variety of soups, usually including chili, vegetarian and gluten-free options, as well as salads and breads, beverages and desserts. Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children’s meals. Everyone is welcome for good food and good fellowship. If anyone would like to bring donations, the church collects nonperishable food for local food banks and gently used clothes for local families in need.
