Oakdale Memorial Cemetery Association Memorial Day Service, Dinner, and Ice Cream Sale on Monday, May 25, at Oakdale Independent Community Church, 485 Oakdale Drive, Hunlock Creek. The Memorial Day Service begins at 10:30 a.m., followed by dinner from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dinner includes roast pork and homemade sides, with eat-in or take-out available. Homemade ice cream will also be available for purchase following the service. All are welcome.
Sugar Notch Memorial Day Service Monday, May 25, at 11 a.m. at the FDR Monument on Main Street. It was one of the first monuments to FDR in the country and honors both the former president and local military veterans. Eleanor Roosevelt visited Sugar Notch in 1948 to unveil and dedicate the monument. It is featured as one of the historical locations on the Visit Luzerne County History Trail.
Orpheus Choral Society of the Wyoming Valley Spring Concert at St. John the Evangelist Church, 35 William St., Pittston, on Saturday, May 30, at 2 p.m. The program will run approximately 45 minutes and include religious, secular, and patriotic selections. A free-will offering will be accepted.
Greater Wyoming Valley Audubon Society will host a birding field trip on Sunday, May 31, at Nescopeck State Park, with a start time of 8:30 a.m. To register, email jeffrey.stratford@wilkes.edu
Celebrate America Concert. Singers are invited to participate in an Independence Day concert, set for 3 p.m. Sunday, June 28, at First Presbyterian Church, 97 South Franklin Street, Wilkes-Barre. Co-sponsored by the church and the Pennsylvania Northeast Chapter of the American Guild of Organists, the program will include organ and choral music as well as readings related to the holiday. Choir rehearsals will be on Thursday, June 25, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. and on Sunday, June 28, at 1:30 p.m. at the church.
