The Anthracite Heritage Museum and Scranton Iron Furnaces are pleased to announce the Arts on Fire Festival taking place on Saturday, June 6 and Sunday, June 7.
The two-day celebration of arts, heritage, industry and community will be held at Scranton Iron Furnaces. There will be hands-on activities from various community partners, live musical performances, an artist and craft vendor market, and the ever-popular iron pour. Visitors can also purchase and customize scratch block molds, watch metalsmiths cast their original designs in iron, and take home one-of-a-kind souvenirs of Scranton’s industrial heritage.
To register for a workshop, go to the Event page on the Anthracite Museum website.
Admission to the event is free. Workshops start at $20. The festival runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
This event is made possible with the support of the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, Lackawanna County Arts and Culture Grant commissioners Bill Gaughan, Thom Welby, and Chris Chermak, Lackawanna Heritage Valley National and State Heritage Area in partnership with the National Park Service, and Lamar Advertising.
The Scranton Iron Furnaces are a four-acre site along Roaring Brook managed by the Anthracite Heritage Museum. This complex was part of a nationally significant iron and steel production facility built in the 1840s, where many of the early immigrants to Scranton worked. The Museum and Iron Furnaces are owned and operated by the Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission, the Commonwealth’s official history agency. The Anthracite Heritage Museum is open Wednesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Iron Furnaces are open seven days a week from dawn to dusk.
